In the Contemporary English bible Version in the book of Esther chapter 2 verse 17 and it says: “Xerxes, of all the women that were presented before him, liked Esther more. None of them pleased him as much as she did, and right away he fell in love with her and crowned her queen in place of Vashti. ” King Xerxes lived in Susa, the capital city of Persia and ruled so many provinces. After ruling three years, he decided to hold a big feast. All his officials, officers, governors and leaders of the provinces, and even the commanders of the Persian and Median armies attend.
He exhibited his possessions and displayed the greatness of Persia, Spending lots of money to make his guests happy. Later on, he held another dinner that lasted for seven days, nobody was left out, everyone got an invitation without discrimination. The palace was decorated beautifully, the guests drank from golden cups. As the king entertained the men, queen Vashti on the other hand hosted a big dinner inside the royal palace for the women.
A lot of wine was served, as a result, the king was pleased, he asked his personal servants at the palace to bring the queen to him so that the guests could see how beautiful she was as she worn her crown. She disobeyed the king’s orders and refused to present herself before the king. It caused embarrassment to the king who became annoyed, he therefore consulted with the seven highest officials of Persia and Media on the action he should take concerning the queen’s behavior. The officials suggested for a law to be written that will keep Vashti from ever seeing the King, and the law said that wives and children shall be under the rule of their husbands/fathers. Allowing the king to marry a respectful wife.
After a while, King Xerxes’ anger cooled down, but the actions of her majesty kept lingering in his mind and remembering the law he had put in place, he went to his personal servants with the issue. They advised him to find a beautiful young woman to replace her. A number of young women were selected from various provinces and given beauty treatments for a year. Esther was among the women that were paraded to the king, she was his favorite, everyone liked her. When she became queen, Esther was awarded by the king and the guests given valuables in her favor.
